Happy Throwback Thursday! Today we are taking it back to our wonderful convening held this past winter!
On January 26th more than 70 representatives from numerous mentoring programs gathered at Temple University to celebrate our fourth annual Partner convening. The theme for the event “Past, Present, & Future: A Celebration of Mentoring” was fulfilled with dynamic speakers and opportunities to learn, network, and share best practices.
High School senior Angie Ortiz, gave a heartwarming speech about her experience as a mentee and provide the audience with key advice on successful mentoring relationships with her peers: patience and time.
The attendees also heard from DeVon Jackson, who presented on the importance of recognizing the roles race, culture, and personal assumptions play in a mentoring relationship. DeVon drew the biggest and intense crowd of attendees during the networking portion of our event. Their conversations were so engaging that many attendants stayed later after the convening to continue speaking with him!
Our third speaker, Jordan Steffy, spoke about his experience utilizing technology to help increase the success and longevity of the mentoring relationships in his organization.
Many new opportunities for collaboration were identified, professional networks were expanded, and the seeds were sown for a new community of practice. We hope to see you again next year!
